About the Team
Hydra is the Triad area’s Open’s Club team and was first established in 2024. The team travels to 2-3 tournaments in the NC region in preparation for USA Ultimate Sectionals and competitive regional bid opportunities in one of the strongest divisions in Ultimate. If you’re looking to help secure our team as regionally competitive, come check us out!
The season starts with an open tryout where all prospective, former, and current players are invited. While all who are interested to attend our events are welcome, there are a limited number of roster spots and so not everyone is guaranteed a spot on the team. This space is intended for those who are looking to take their game to the next level and each season the team will consist of a number of rostered and practice players. As a rostered player there will be tournaments, weekly practices, pickup games, and scrimmages to participate in throughout the season.
The Triad also has a Practice Squad for former club and pro players who cannot commit to a travel team (kids, job, family priorities, etc.) along with other aspiring players who desire to enhance their game and play on a competitive club team in the future.
Buck Schneider is Hydra’s current coach and started playing Ultimate in 1979. He’s participated in winning six National Championships at Open (1984 Tunas), Grand Masters (2012 & 2013 Surly), Great Grand Masters (2018 Surly), and Legends (2022 & 2025 TriAged).
Important to Know
- USAU limits rostered players, so while everyone is welcome at events, roster spots are not guaranteed
